Berry & maca smoothie

This berry-delicious maca smoothie is the perfect way to start your day. Many endurance athletes use maca powder as a daily supplement, as it contains all 8 essential amino acids, vitamin C, many beneficial plant compounds and is well known for its powerful energizing and hormone balancing qualities. Due to its caramel-like flavour, it is a great addition to smoothies and porridge. Berries, on the other hand, provide a large dose of natural antioxidants to help combat inflammation.

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries (or berry of choice)
  • 2 tsp. maca root powder
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 orange
  • 4-6 mint leaves

There are no special directions to making this smoothie. Simply place all the ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Pro tip: to be sure the mint leaves are blended properly, leave the blender on for longer than usual.

Maca is a root originally cultivated from Peru but has made a name for itself worldwide due to its many health benefits (1). Being an adaptogenic plant, it works on many aspects of the body by restoring balance to where it is most needed. Maca works specifically on hormone regulation by balancing excess estrogen and improving testosterone production (1).

A well balanced hormone production is highly important for managing weight, stabilizing energy production, increasing libido and boosting mood and concentration – all of which can help positively support athletic performance and overall health. Maca comes in the form of powder and capsules and only needs to be consumed in small amounts daily.
